Here is an interview from our big boss Felix Walschoeffer (CEO Challenge Family) ...

What was your first feeling when you arrived in Vichy and on the race site?

I found it the ideal location for a race, beautifull setting, everything on one place, which makes it very easy for our athletes and familys. The city of Vichy as well as the region has a lot of charm and invites for some extra days to spend holiday.

How did you live this day?

I have spent the day out on the beautifully course , so I could see how the race is unfolding and how the organization was working.

What did you think about this first organization?

It has been the best first year’s event in the Challenge family from our perspective, it ran smooth, professional and very friendly, just as we want our races to be. All in all we could not have wished for more, except a little cooler temperaturesJ

According to you, what are the strong points of the Challenge Vichy?

1.       Easy and wonderful setting for our athletes

2.       Perfect organization

3.       Great and very friendly location with Vichy and the whole region

Training Programs

From 1rst December, all athletes registered to Challenge Vichy and Half Vichy will receive training programs (10h and 15h per week) to be ready for August 19th, 2012.

Preferential entry fee extended by one week due to computer problems.

Sunday 1st May, due to computer problems of our service for registrations, some people were unable to register a few hours before the end of the preferential entry fee to 340 €. In order to not penalize athletes who wanted to register, exceptionally we push to next weekend, May 8th, the preferential entry fee at 340€.

The Expo Village is growing!

27 exhibitors have so far ensured their venue for the first edition of Challenge Vichy on August 21rst. From 18 to 22nd August, triathletes and spectators can stroll through the village exhibition while enjoying entertainment and food tasting organized by local authorities. A food court in the park will be adjacent to the village expo.
The triathletes will have the opportunity to test wetsuits of exhibitors in the morning during swim session in the Lac d’Allier .

Challenge-Weltserie goes Südafrika

Kapstadt wird Austragungsort des 13. Wettkampfs

ROTH/KAPSTADT. Jetzt erobert die Challenge-Weltserie auch den afrikanischen Kontinent: Kapstadt, eine der schönsten Städte der Welt, wird am 6. November mit der Premiere des Challenge Kapstadt auf der Langdistanz zum Sehnsuchtsziel der Triathleten aus aller Welt.

Seit der erfolgreichen Durchführung der Fifa-Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft im Sommer 2010 stand Kapstadt auf der Wunschliste von TEAMCHALLENGE  als möglicher Wettkampfort für die nunmehr auf bereits 13 Rennen angewachsene Weltserie. Die Traumstadt besticht allein schon durch ihren überwältigenden Tafelberg, aber auch die Szenerien der Natur mit spektakulären Küstenstraßen, die schroffe  Felsformationen durchschneiden, mit unendlichen Sandstränden und malerischen, fruchtbaren Flusstälern mit üppigen Obst- und Weingärten. Dazu kommt das milde mediterrane Klima in der Provinz Westkap – alles zusammen bietet die drittgrößte Stadt Südafrikas geradezu ideale Bedingungen für einen internationalen Triathlon-Wettkampf.

Die 226 Kilometer-Strecke führt an den Aufsehen erregendsten Naturschauspielen der Region vorbei. Der Schwimmwettbewerb wird an der Granger Bay am Atlantik ausgetragen und ermöglicht traumhafte Ausblicke hinüber zur ehemaligen Gefängnisinsel Robben Island. Der 180 Kilometer-Radkurs dürfte mit rund 2.000 Metern Steigung wohl einer der härtesten der Challenge-Weltserie werden und führt durch die Weinregion Constantia – vorbei am berühmten Chapman’s Peak – entlang der Küstenstraße rund um den markanten plateauförmigen Tafelberg und schließlich nach Khayelitsha, die größte und am schnellsten wachsende Township Südafrikas. Dort werden die Athleten die Gelegenheit haben, die starken Kontraste des Landes hautnah mitzuerleben.

Der Marathon startet nahe des Green Point Stadions, führt mitten hinein in die City Bowl, anschließend geht es bergauf zur Kloof Road und wieder hinunter zur Camps Bay mit ihren Palmen-gesäumten Sandstränden. Zwei Runden sind dann auf einem Kurs entlang der Küstenlinie zu absolvieren. Die Finishline ist am Green Point in Sichtweite des Stadions.

Der ungewöhnliche Kurs im Herzen von Kapstadt vereint die unterschiedlichsten Eindrücke: das kühlere Wasser der Tafelbucht, die Winde am Kap, die Umrundung der Halbinsel und die steilen Abhänge des Tafelbergs.


“Aus gutem Grund wird Kapstadt gerne die “Mutterstadt” genannt”, so Grant Kunneke, der Race Director des Challenge Kapstadt. “Zu den fantastischen landschaftlichen Highlights, der reichen Geschichte und den berühmten Weinen kommt jetzt mit dem Challenge Kapstadt noch ein weiteres Juwel hinzu. Zur Premiere erwarten wir rund tausend Teilnehmer, davon wird ein Drittel aus internationalen Athleten bestehen, denn Kapstadt ist zweifellos auch für die Sportler eine großartige Attraktion.“

Bereits acht Monate vor dem Wettkampf können die Organisatoren die ersten Top-Stars der Szene verkünden: So wird der aktuelle Ironman Südafrika-Sieger Raynard Tissink ebenso beim Challenge Kapstadt an den Start gehen wie James Cunnama und die Challenge Barcelona-Gewinnerin Lucie Zelenkova.  



„Die Stadtspitze Kapstadts war von der Möglichkeit der Durchführung eines Wettkampfs der Challenge-Weltserie auf Anhieb begeistert und legte bei der Realisierung unserer Pläne ein unglaubliches Engagement an den Tag“, freut sich Felix Walchshöfer, Veranstalter der weltweiten Challenge-Serie. „Egal mit welchen Wünschen wir an die Stadtverwaltung herangetreten sind – ob Straßensperrungen, die Einbindung der Zuschauer, die Sicherheit der Athleten – wir fanden immer offene Ohren“.

Der Verkehrsplan wurde gemeinsam verabschiedet, und es ist sichergestellt, dass die Athleten auf der gesamten Radstrecke abgeriegelte Straßen vorfinden. Mit der Durchführung von großen Rad-Events haben die Verantwortlichen in der Stadtverwaltung bereits durch die „Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour “ wertvolle Erfahrung sammeln können.

„Die enge und vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadt ist für uns von unschätzbarem Wert, und die Chemie stimmt einfach“, so Felix Walchshöfer weiter. „Kapstadt war unsere erste Wahl für einen Challenge in Südafrika, und ich bin so glücklich, dass es geklappt hat. Die Stadt ist wahnsinnig malerisch, und es wird sicherlich ein unvergessliches Rennen für alle Athleten werden. Wo sonst gibt es eine Rennstrecke entlang von zwei Ozeanen, eine solche Fülle an afrikanischer Kultur und eine so spektakuläre Natur? Wir sind unglaublich stolz darauf, dass Kapstadt Mitglied der weltweiten Challenge-Family wird“.



Der November markiert in Südafrika den Übergang vom Frühling zum Sommer, am Wettkamptermin 6. November ist mit angenehmen Temperaturen um die 25 Grad Celsius zu rechnen. Die Meldelisten für den ersten Challenge Kapstadt sind ab sofort geöffnet. Das Startgeld beträgt 2990 südafrikanische Rand (ZAR) für Einzelstarter und 4500 Rand für Staffeln (der Umrechnungsfaktor beträgt etwa 10:1 zum Euro).

World Champions auction items for Christchurch earthquake.

Christchurch based hosts of popular podcast IM Talk (www.imtalk.me <http://www.imtalk.me/> )  John Newsom and Bevan Eyles endured the devastating earthquake that struck Christchurch, New Zealand just over two weeks ago. With close to 200 deaths, thousands of residents being displaced from their homes and the central city more of less flattened to the ground the region needs the help of the worldwide triathlon community. “Whilst I suffered some significant damage to my home thankfully both Bevan and I did not loose any family or friends. We’ve now got a chance to do our part in helping our city slowly return to a new type of normality. Things will never quite be the same” comments Newsom.
